Citerate is a mobile game about building cities in the 21st century. It is designed to inspire people to found their own cities, especially with limited resources.

Previously available on android and iphone! Sid Sijbrandij and his wife Karen started this project, and Sid brought me on for the visual design. The developer Alexandre Valsamou-Stanislawski designed the game mechanics and overall UI system, and we worked together to create the branding, all of the illustrations, and the UI skin. Andrew Baker created our marketing strategy.

Special thanks to April Malone for keeping all of us coordinated!

Alex designed the game so that players swipe left or right on cards to deny or accept proposals for their city. The game has eleven different categories of services, with multiple levels of options in every category; for a total of 59 service cards - each with a unique illustration. I had a lot of fun creating some repeating characters that show up in a bunch of places!

There’s so much more to this game that I am hesitant to share because figuring it out is half the fun! Suffice to say that there’s a whole level system with unique rewards, event cards that may bode ill for your city, and all sorts of metrics to dive into. BUT, if you’d like to see more immediately and skip the game, (and love Figma files that take an eternity to load) you can see most of my illustrations, and check out this handy brand guide right now.
